The PGA Championship began with 16 LIV Golfers among the field of 156, but only half that number made it as far as the weekend, and by the time the final round began, only Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau seemed in with a realistic hope of claiming the title.
For a while, Rahm seemed to have taken control of proceedings at Quail Hollow, as he ruthlessly took advantage of leader Scottie Scheffler's subdued front nine further back with three birdies in four holes between the eighth and 11th. That gave him a share of the lead and at that point, he had all the momentum.
However, any hopes he had of claiming his third Major title didn't last long as Scheffler finally clicked into gear before a bogey, double-bogey, double-bogey finish from Rahm saw him place a relatively disappointing T8.

Because of Rahm's earlier exploits, Bryson DeChambeau had flown a little under the radar, but he was rewarded for plugging away with a one-under 70 and a T2 finish, albeit five behind Scheffler. That's the second year in a row he has placed runner-up, although there are some big consolations he will take from finishing second.
If DeChambeau seemed less likely to win it than Rahm for long periods, Joaquin Niemann had barely been in the conversation at all, but his round of 68 drew him level with Rahm in T8 for his best placing in a Major.

At the wrong end of the leaderboard, Sergio Garcia finished last of the LIV Golfers who made the weekend after a final round of 69 left him in T67 on seven-over, a performance that led to him playing down his chances of making the European Ryder Cup team.
